GOOD MORNING FROM THE BEAUTIFUL LAKES REGION OF NEW HAMPSHIRE - Here's your weather summary for Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 -
If you're planning to be outdoors today, expect more clouds than sun with a 20% of showers this morning into the early afternoon. The high temperature for the day will be a seasonal low but comfortable 70+° with 10-15 MPH winds out of the west, northwest, gusting to 25 MPH.
The Jet Stream above North America has for the past three weeks pushed cooler Canadian air southward into the Mid-Atlantic region of the country, bringing down New England temperatures 8-15° for the month.
Skies will remain partly cloudy this evening with chilly 10-25 MPH winds. The overnight low is expected to dip down to the low- to mid-40° range.
The region's extended forecast anticipates more of the same cool, moistly sunny weather for the next 10 days, except for Sunday, when clouds, rain and chilly temperatures below 60° are expected throughout the day. Pleasant weather is expected to return the following day, however.
We're glad to hear it because we already have our tickets for the Monday final round of the FedEx Dell Technologies Championship at the PGA Tournament Players Champshionship course in Norton, MA. Really looking forward to an exciting round of golf played by the world's best professionals vying for the coveted FedEx Cup.
We pay tribute this weekend to contributions of American workers to the strength, prosperity and well being of our nation. Never has that contribution of labor been more noted and appreciated than during our entry into the Great War to help thwart Germany's invasion of Europe.
So, while we're enjoying the fruits of prosperity made possible by America's peacetime labor movement, let us also remember the unity of spirit that characterized its contributions in war that ultimately conquered Nazi oppression and thrust the United States of America into its modern-day role as a world beacon of freedom.
That spirit of unity is alive and well in our own Wright Museum of Word War II, Wolfeboro, NH. To paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill, England's colorful WWII-era Prime Minister, the farther we look back, the clearer we see into the future. If you believe that history has the power to teach invaluable social lessons, then take the time this Labor Day weekend to visit Wright Musuem, whose mission gives recognition and pays tribute to the enduring contributions and legacies of all WWII-era Americans.
Here you will discover the character of a nation's people who answered the call for freedom and why they deserve to be known as America's "Greatest Generation". If that recognition doesn't do your heart good, nothing will. For more information on museum hours, current exhibitions and the like, click here.
