Jim Cheney's Being Human Challenge
Santa Rosa, CA blogger Jim Cheney has challenged ActiveRain bloggers to post an August blog on something that is personal and not business related. Since this is the final day of the challenge, I am writing this while Chef Dolores is taking advantage of the beautiful day by playing a round of golf at Montgomery Country Club.
Since I have now been retired for four years, very few of my activities are business related. Even my blogs on ActiveRain are not business related since I no longer solicit real estate business. If you follow my blogs, you already know that photography and specifically flower photography is one of my retirement hobbies. Dolores suggested this hobby to keep me busy while she is golfing or participating in some of her favorite activities with her friends.
I am very active in a number of Facebook groups that feature photography and have developed a large and supportive world wide following. This hobby requires me to go to places where I can photograph flowers and that encourages me to take photowalks through our home community and to regularly travel to places line Longwood Gardens where are annual members.
Dolores and I take many day trips and are annual members of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Winterthur, Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens, the National Zoo, Brandywine River Museum and others. Dolores has an art history backrgound and has served as a docent at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and I am still in the learning mode went we travel to such destinations as the Baltimore Museum of Art and museums in other cities. We recently spent much of a day at the National Museum of the Marine Corps.
We have spent so much time in Colonial Williamsburg that we have even considered moving there. With the increased number of wineries and breweries in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania, we enjoy visiting those locations and sampling the wines and the craft beers. I have blogged about many of those visits.
Our quality of life is good and we plan to continue many of our current activities as long as we enjoy good health.
Let me know if you have some suggestions on places that we should add to our list for fall visits. We will definitely want to take a drive down the Skyline Drive in Virginia. And, Dolores wants to spend some time in Charlottesville, Virginia, the location of the University of Virginia where I attended the College, the School of Commerce and the Law School.
