Surprise! Alaska is all about Flowers!
I love this post by Debra Leisek of Homer Alaska.
I for one never really thought much about blooms in Alaska. I guess I thought they didn't have many flowers because of the weather but boy was I wrong.
I guess with the extended sunlight hours it all makes sense.
Thanks for sharing your great photos Debra.
Today is the last day of the Show us Your Blooms Challenge, btw.
Alaska Flowers are such a Surprise!
When I first came to Alaska I was completely amazed by the flowers. You just don’t think Alaska and flowers together. Most people imagine cold and snow and ice when they think Alaska so when they come here and see the flowers everywhere it is stunning and surprising!
After winter is gone or melting and the days grow longer Alaskans turn out to enjoy every moment of summer. You never know for sure when the warm days will start. We usually have winter at least thru April and I have seen snow in the flower beds as late as June.
Generally we can count on Memorial Day Weekend as our first official day of Spring/Summer and the World comes Alive with Color!
Wild flowers are abundant. Lupine, Wild Celery, Prickley Rose, Chocolate Lilly, Wild Iris and the gorgeous Fireweed. Alaska State Flower is the beautiful Forget Me Not.
Alaska is a Stunningly Gorgeous Place to Live in or to Visit! Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall it offers a Beauty that is Magnificent. People expect Glaciers and Snow topped mountains. They hope to see an Eagle or Moose or Bear. What really surprise people is the beautiful flowers everywhere dotted across the vast land, decorating businesses in every town or city. Decks filled with Flowers and Landscaped Gardens that will astound you.
Alaska is Simply Irresistible!
