As I have read many of the posts about Habits, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, I identified with many of the same bad habits that others have had such as the diet coke habit just to name one! I thought I would take a different approach with this particular challenge from Debbie Reynolds . The issues I face, are in the process of being resolved, so I want to address them. 

The Good

My goal in real estate has always been to make the process of buying or selling real estate as easy and stress free as possible for my clients. To help with this process, I provide my buyers and sellers with everything I feel they may need to help them make a decision on how to move forward.  

Sedona Map

We all know that after looking at many homes in one day, amenities may start to become confusing as to which house had what. Questions come up like - Where was that house located? Did it have views? I provide my clients with a portfolio of homes and MLS sheets. Each is numbered and shown on a map that I also provide for them. The most current market report for the area is also included along with paper to take notes. I also orient clients to my website which has a comprehensive number of documents and solutions for both buyers and sellers to help them navigate questions they may have. 

If buyers have the time, I give them a map up front and based on our initial conversation, I will point out areas they might be interested in. I ask them to drive those areas and get a feel for the neighborhood. This helps to narrow down the search based on how they like the area. 

The Bad

I have been in the corporate world since the 1970's. Long before computers and well before being able to legally use systems for document signing. My issue is that I have a lot of paper files that I probably don't need but have always felt that as soon as I get rid of them, I am going to need a document.  I even go through this with email. I document everything I do. 

Currently, I am using a 64Gb USB to keep all my files from 2016 on.  There is still plenty of room on the drive. I back it up weekly and now I rarely have any issues with paper files. Of course these electronic files are also kept in the cloud on docusign and another copy goes to our corporate office.  This seems to be working for me and the anxiety of missing files has been eliminated. 

The Ugly

Well, it just so happens to be tax time and I had to have all my documents and tax info for my PLLC in to the accounting firm just last week .  I dread this time of year. There are so many programs that can help you with this but let's face it...garbage in...garbage out.  

I use a daily planner and I write everything on it. But at the end of the year I have to put it all together. There is nothing more stressful for me than reconciling all my tax information. I am seriously thinking about using a bookkeeper to get all my finances square every month so I don't have to.  

I love to work with people and sell property but I dislike doing taxes!  There is nothing more ugly for me!

I feel the same way about tax time, Sherri. I get grouchy and can't wait for it to be over. It takes a 3 full days to get it all together and to the accountant. The return gets more lengthy every year. It was 140 pages this year. I vote for a flat tax. Thanks for entering the challenge.

I haven't done taxes in years. I give it all to my CPA, she lets me know what else she needs, and I sign it. We went through an audit last year and it was fairly painless and we actually got a small refund!

Taxes are not my favorite thing either....charging everything with Capital One that categorizes expenses with a little tweaking and gives us frequent flyer miles besides has been a huge help !

Great post, Sheri. I've also been gradually getting over the issue of saving too many paper files and am doing quite well these days. As for taxes... that's my husband's lookout... so I've dodged that bullet!

The corporate world those in the waste a lot of energy in meetings and such like that, and they haven't figured out how to break out of that mold in a lot of cases.
