Throwback Thursday: Not a Black and White Photo

A Gray Day on Kaua'i

A gray Kaua'i day

Our first trip to Kaua'i back in 2011 was during a rainy time. Thankfully, it didn't keep us from exploring quite a bit, and there were plenty of sunny periods.

I took this photo along the coast road north of Kapa'a on a rather gray day. It turned out looking like a black and white photo, which was actually kinda cool. Normally everything looks so green and lush and the water is a myriad of blues, and this was a strinking contrast.

I love the photo regardless of the color.  Kauai is a magical place regardless of weather conditions.  A

Hi Jeff... frankly, I adore black and white photos. One of my best friends lived for years on Kauai so I'm very familiar with it... and it does rain there quite a bit.

Jeff beautiful picture, and it does look like a black and white shot, but if you look close you can notice a bit of color.

Hi Jeff - That's a great photo. But in the days of film, I mostly worked in B&W - it was easier and cheaper, and B&W can be a dramatic medium, as your photo shows.

Great shot Jeff!

I love the hint of blue in the ocean of that pic.  I have spent time on the dry and wet sides of the island and to watch the waterfalls right after a rain is jaw dropping.  One time we were waiting for the skies to clear in a Blue Hawaii copter ride. The pilot pointed to a new waterfall he had never seen before!

Thankfully when we've visited Kaua'i, we've never experienced any rain but, regardless, it's still a gorgeous site to behold - even in shades of gray, Jeff!

Gorgeous photo!

Hi Jeff -- it is interesting to see how colors "translate" in photos -- I have not been to Kaua'i...yet.   Thank you for sharing the photo and the memory of that first visit.
