We take open houses very seriously at The Blehm Group to ensure we sell your home to the best of our ability. We take pride in them, but you may still feel a bit overwhelmed leading up to opening day. If you’ve recently decided to sell your home and aren’t sure where to begin in the preparation process, our agents will happily walk you through the ins and outs for a successful open house.
Some tried and true tips are listed below to get you started:
-
De-clutter your space
Your knick-knacks make your space your own and we love that about you. Unfortunately people walking through your house need to picture it as their own so those knick knacks and piles of Christmas letters need to go. Family photos need to be stored as well so that potential buyers can imagine themselves living there. This is your opportunity to de-personalize the space and take a piece of furniture out (or two) to open up a room. You may need to invest in a storage space or ask a friend to let you use their home temporarily to store some things until your home is off the market. -
Take care of those maintenance projects
Has your sink been leaking for months? Is paint chipping in your walkway? Now is the time to take care of these projects so that when potential buyers see your home there are no cracks and bruises that could detract them from putting down an offer on your home. -
Paint
As much as you may love that lime green bathroom, neutrals are much more appealing when selling your home. The same goes for stark whites. A fresh coat of paint can go far when freshening up a space and is quite cost effective to make the space look clean and refreshed. -
Update your light-fixtures
Light-fixtures are one of the quickest things to date a space. They can be quite costly to replace, but spray painting them can be a easy way to update them in a pinch. -
Take care of your yard
It may not be inside your home, but it’s the first thing any potential buyers will see when coming to your home. Make sure that your yard is mowed and you have flowers planted. A fresh coat of paint on the front door can do wonders as well. Clean windows and even a new mailbox can spruce up the look of your house tremendously.
These are only suggestions; please take what you’d like of the list above and leave the rest. Our agents are here to help you be successful selling your home. Your home is an extension of you and therefore incredibly unique.
