Searcy yearbook 1960 Rialto Theater ad

The Rialto Theater in Searcy AR

We have seen so many pictures of the Rialto!  We have it stored as a beloved memory!  We love that it has been restored to what it was when we were growing up.  So since we never get tired of the Rialto, here's another picture.  This comes from the advertisements in the 1960 Searcy High School yearbook on page165.  Names are there and perhaps someone can say whether the ones in the picture paid for the ad or whether the group was for seniors.  It is unusual in that it does not show the Rialto but features the ones in the picture so that we can clearly see their enthusiasm for their entry into life after high school!

I never saw a Rock n' Roll themed movie in my days.

So, Becca, these were the ones who were there for all 12 years.  Any who came in later were not included?  Interesting!!  Is KK still doing this, I wonder??

Looks like 1955 was when   R&R movies showed up in numbers on film.. I was gone then. I'm not sure I would have gone to see one anyway. I was into classical music and some pop.

Round Up of Rhythm (1954)… Bill Haley and the Comets perform three songs after being introduced by a D.J. and a female guest. Not feature length but still worth mentioning for the first appearance by a rock band on film. Members at the time included Joey Ambrose, Dick Boccelli, Johnny Grande, Marshall Lytle and Billy Williamson.

This was my graduating class...1960. I wasn't in the picture because I went to school elsewhere until my family moved back to Searcy in 1957.

Mary, that is strange that he only took the 12 year people.  Did he have a child in there because it was a full page ad....more expensive that some that we have seen?

I have no idea the criteria used in selecting the focus of the ad. Obviously, however, having high school seniors as the target of an ad for a theater makes sense. I am not aware that Mr. King had any children in the Searcy system.

Mary, thanks for that information.  I do love the old advertisements in the back of the yearbooks.  Jim Baugh Jones told me once that he was  on the staff when they started doing pictures in the ads.  Before then, there were none.
