Hi Dee,
I have 2 memory drawers that include baby shower cards from the 70' and 80's, highschool graduation tassle, lapel pins earned for shorthand awards, typing words per minute award cards, notes from my grandma who passed away 44 years ago, brochures from past trips and other goodies. File folders for each of my 2 daughters have their grade cards, pictures they've drawn, school projects, notes they wrote to me when they couldn't spell, school pics, birth announcements all kept for their reminising after I pass someday.
My dad has a similar drawer that I went thru a few years ago to find several watches I had as a child and his other saved special mementos. My parents didn't save any of my toys but did an excellent job of keeping our gradeschool
class group pictures from the 50's!
I saw a post on Facebook of a lady standing proudly beside her filled china cabinet saying "Someday This Will All Be Yours!" The inheriting child is rolling their eyes as in no interest, no way, no how!!
I can declutter furniture, few knic knacks but not my memory drawers/files at least not until forever:-)
DeCluttering can be hard for people who have been in their home for few years. To older sellers who've lived in a home for their entire adult life, it may feel impossible. Add to it emotional resistance they are experience. I'd recommend to start one room at a time or bring a professional stagger or space organizer.
Good morning Dee. Decluttering is always a challenge, isn't it? It doesn't seem like it should be because we have so much stuff we really don't use or need... yet when it comes time to purge, it doesn't come so easy. Thanks for the post.
