 So, being that the Fit Body Boot Camp that I did for 6 weeks didn't lead to me getting rid of my belly, I am still trying to figure out what to do.  I joined a gym for starters, but I need to figure out a routine that will lead to my belly eventually becoming flat again, haha.  I met with a trainer there and he put together a routine of 6 exercises that target the core. There were a couple of exercises that I couldn't quite do yet, so he has me starting out on some machines instead.  This is fine, but he only has me doing 3 exercises for 3 sets each.  I am done with those in 15-20 minutes and don't really feel like I am doing enough.  If I haven't already played tennis, then in addition to these 3 exercises, I run on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes to get some cardio in.  I really feel kind of lost, as I have never done much in a gym and don't really know what I should be doing to accomplish my goal.  I know part of the solution is to eat healthy, but to be honest, I think I eat pretty healthy already.  I have a green smoothie every day and I stay away from sugar and processed foods as much as possible.  I would certainly try to eat even healthier, if I knew exactly what I should be eating on a daily basis and could actually fix those things for myself to eat.  Anyways, my quest continues, I will keep y'all updated!

Hi Brian England all cardio is the way to lose weight....but you need to complement that with weight training.... replace fat with lean muscle.... the weight routine that you could not do means you were using weights that were too heavy for you...do those routines with lighter weights and progress from there...

and get another trainer...you shouldn't be focused only on cardio ....

Well, the exercises that I couldn't do were without weights Barbara Todaro , they were core exercises and I am thinking that my core wasn't strong enough.

do static poses...  for core.... hold for 10 seconds.... relax for 10 seconds and repeat.... 


eventually you'll hold that for minutes ( I do 4 mnutes 15 seconds so far)

this static pose is what I began my core training doing.... I held it for 10 seconds and now it's many minutes.... every muscle in the body is engaged.... I love it... great routine for a warm up for lifting.... Ron and Alexandra Seigel  (A)....

That sounds like a good plan Ron and Alexandra Seigel , now I just need to learn which static poses to do.  Is it only the one in the picture or what Barbara Todaro?  I know how to plank, is that also considered a static pose that I should be doing?

I can already hold a plank for a minute or more Barbara Todaro , I was in the habit of doing them before I went to bed each night, but I haven't done them in a long while.  I need you here to train me!!!  Or, just outline a routine for me to follow and I will do it.

yes, planks are perfect....then work your way up to static poses.... planks are much easier....start with a count of 10...

that's good if you've done them before.... but you need to work your way up to 5 minutes.... you do them every day and increase them by  10 seconds as often as you can.... and make sure you breathe while you're doing it....

one more routine..... lay on your back and raise your extended legs 4" off the floor and hold it there.... you are laying on your back rather that sitting up....

This is how you do it Brian England lift legs 4 to 6" off floor...hands behind your head.... hold that for 20 seconds.... lower to floor for 20 seconds.... do 10 reps....morning and evening.... this is what they do at the police academy.....

You are an amazing instructor Barbara Todaro , I will start doing the plank for a minute every night before going to bed and in the morning when I wake up for at least a minute and try to increase by 10 seconds each time.  I will also start doing the leg lifts as well for 10 reps in the morning and before bed.  Thank you!!!

Brian England I have a few tricks.

  • If it's not in the house, you can't eat it.  Don't buy junk!
  • I eat due to boredom.  Keep low cal food on hand to snack like seaweed, celery, real fruit, nuts, trail mix,
  • Keep busy.  When your on the back of a boat hauling in a 20' marlin, you're not thinking about what sandwich is in your cooler.  
  • Join a work out that meets at a certain time, and you are accountable to the group.

A few years ago, I read The Four Hour Body and then found a local gym that hewed to that philosophy.  It worked great.  I looked amazing and felt amazing.

Since that worked so well, I stopped (because I lookd & felt amazing).  Now I need to start again because the old habits have crept back in.

Lesson here: just do it, don't stop.
