And It Begins...

The day has been sunny and calm with just some mild wind gusts from time to time. But the winds have started to pick up and the sky is getting darker. Through out the day I could hear the sound of saws cutting plywood as many homes were being boarded up.

We, in the Tampa Bay area of Florida are under a hurricane warning. Most stores are closed now but earlier it looked like the grocery stores were going out of business as many shelves were nearly empty. People who waited until the last minute are still trying to get out of the area, but it's really too late now. They are no longer letting anyone go onto the barrier islands unless they have a special pass. The Sunshine Skyway bridge is now closed due to wind gusts over 40 miles an hour.

I just came back from taking my 7 month old Golden Retriever for a walk. One homeowner was just boarding up his house. My dog was skittish at a gust of wind and she stops to sniff the air. She senses something.

People are nervous, frightened of this unknown category 4, maybe 5 hurricane like nothing we have ever seen or experienced before. Yet I am at peace; a calmness like I have never felt before. I have done everything I can for my family and my home. I know that God is with me and regardless of what happens in the next 48 hours, everything will be OK.

The outer bands should start to affect us sometime during the night and Irma should be at full force sometime around 2 AM on Monday morning. Please pray for my family and all those in Irma's path.

We didn't leave because we are not in an evacuation zone. Flooding is not an issue for us. The wind and loss of power is. I live in a block constructed home with a superior rated roof. We have a generator when the power goes out. Have everything we need for 3 - 4 days. The safest place to be is in our homes.

Sounds like you're well prepared with that type of structure and generator, good deal. Hope and pray it would not be a catastrophic situation tomorrow!
