I KNOW I read a post the other day about __________!!
I KNOW I wrote a post about _____________ a few years ago!!
And now I can't find what I'm looking for! Well there are a few ActiveRain tricks of the trade for finding blog posts!
Sometimes it's a simple as looking at the site's footer. For instance, if you go to the bottom right of the footer you can find the "Leaderboard" and then search by state to find potential referral agents.
Also on the bottom footer is the "Getting Started" link, you'll find a collection of links to blog posts that explain some of the basics of ActiveRain, a link to the ActiveRain Community Guidelines and plenty more.
Now as for that post you can't find, if you remember who wrote it, the search gets easier.
Use the ActiveRain search bar and use the following format:
So basically if you want to find something I've written about patio homes, use:
Spear: patio homes in the Search bar. The results won't be perfect, and just like Google you might need to poke around a bit to find the post you want.
Another thing you can do to make a post findable again is to bookmark it when you first read it. Just go to the bottom of the post, find the bar with "Like" on the left, then go to the far right and look for the bookmark icon (the rectangle with the notch out of the bottom). Click that and you'll have that post added to your Bookmarked section. To retrieve your bookmark list, go to My Home, then on the left sidebar click Find Blogs To Read and then Blog Bookmarks.
As far as finding your own posts, that can get challenging (we're over 3000 posts and knowing that somewhere in there is THE one I want, but don't remember how long ago I wrote it?). You can of course use the LASTNAME: SEARCHTERM technique, but there are a couple of other things you can do.
Next up, go to My Home, then on the left side bar click Traffic (Stats). From there, you can put in a search term at the top right of the title table and search.
Another technique? If you use tags (those are the words you add in the Options section when you draft a post), you can search via your tags.
Use the following template:
Plug in your username (you can get that from the URL on your Profile page) and drop that URL into your browser search bar. Presto, you'll get a page with a "tag cloud" of all the tag words you've used. The ones you've used the most will be the biggest. Click the tag that you want and up posts a list of all the posts that used that tag. Find the one you want and you're in business!
Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help!
