Staging Real Estate Photographs with Chickens

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty, LLC

specialize in selling homes on large lots and acreage. These properties, which may include farms, ranches and horse property, are not just homes.  They represent a lifestyle choice. As result, I have opted to personally photograph most of the properties that I list because I want to capture what it would feel like visit or own that particular home.

Just like people; not all lots, homes, buildings or animal pens are particularly photogenic. Tonight, as I’m considering how to best show off a vacant 40 acre lot that does not have a single tree, building, cow or horse on it, my mind keeps drifting back to my recent experience of photographing a multi-purpose animal pen that I “staged” with my own chickens.

It has gotten late, so the reasons why I staged the property will have to be saved for another time.  However, I will say that I do feel that the photographs staged with chickens contributed to finding a buyer for the property.

Real estate photographs are important part of the marketing efforts.

Hi Sondra-I think that is a great idea to stage an empty outdoor farm. There are so many possibilities to do with that much acreage. Like the inside of a home the outside sometimes needs help as well.I think a couple stagers friend Kathy Streib and Sharon Tara would agree.

Hope you have had a great summer.

Sondra, it would make sense to include farm animals on acreage, and have seen chickens in residential homes lately.

It's good that you opt to photograph the properties that you list because there is no one better at it. Happy Monday!

Good morning Sondra. I enjoyed this and look forward to your follow up. You got my attention with chickens and staging in the same sentence.

Makes sense to me....sell the lifestyle! If the property is vacant, though, my concern would be for the safety of the animals used.

I love your idea of using the chickens for your photos!

Photographs are probably THE most important tool other than description that sell a property.

I think they  call this in the movie industry Sondra, using props. So I must give credit to your great imagination with the animal pen in getting chickens around to add to the appeal of the photograph. Hey if it helped get it sold, it worked. As far as completely treeless land without buildings, park a tractor out there maybe? But then again, haha, they might think it is the tractor for sale!! Your rural photography prowess seems so much more fun than me coaching people to make sure in the photo the toilet seat is down....

Chickens seem to be enjoying popularity with a lot of folks.  One of my daughters raises a few on her property.  The one you have pictured in your first photo is gorgeous!

Sondra, this guy looks like real on the photo above. I agree with your idea - staging a vacant lot with potential uses helps invite buyers to think of those options. Or, attracts people who are thinking about the promoted uses.
