It's a Horse - New Way to Travel Atlanta's Busy Streets

By

October is a great month with the change of seasons, leaves turning beautiful colors and beginning to fall, lots of festivals and celebrations taking place, even an opportunity to become someone new for a day, scare a few folks and eat lots of candy. According to Northern Colorado real estate broker, Dick Greenberg, October is also photography month. Greenberg hosts an annual photography contest, so I'm going to enter these two photos in the "People" category (though it was a tough call, because these would be good candidates for the "animal" category as well).

Following the recent hurricanes, the price of gas is sky high. I've noticed more people walking and biking to cut costs. But today, at one of the Atlanta area's busiest intersections, I looked up and saw this lady riding a horse to the grocery store!

HONK! HONK!

A new way to travel near AtlantaStopped at the traffic light, I whipped out my camera to take a photo, so amazed and oblivious to all the cars behind me honking to let me know the traffic light had turned green.

Ah, but why were these people so impatient? Didn't they see I was taking pictures, and it was a horse of course, of course!

BEEP! BEEP!

Time for a close-up!

Good morning, Cheryl -- and, of course, she's riding right passed that gas station.  Not sure how high your prices are in Atlanta but I'm thinking we are still higher in California.

I bet your gas prices in California do indeed have Georgia's beat, Michael Jacobs, and I bet the horse rider had a chuckle as she strode on by the gas station.

Yes, it is a throwback Sheila Anderson, but I do worry about that horse out in all that traffic. It was right at the beginning of rush hour.

Hi Cheryl - That's a nice photo, and by the way, it's not an uncommon sight here, but we are the wild west. Thanks for your contest entry!

Dick Greenberg, I wonder if this woman just relocated from your neck of the woods?

Necessity is the mother of invention. Her car my have been swamped during the hurricane and this was a creative way to get around. As we all know life doesn't stop even when Mother Nature throws us a curve ball.

She certainly is lucky to own a horse, Debe Maxwell. I think there must be a farm somewhere nearby.

I agree Joe Pryor, I imagine it must have been pretty tough for her to navigate that horse through all of the traffic in this area -- something I might have attempted on a Sunday but not during a busy week day.

We sure don't, Anna Banana Kruchten. I see the horse carriages downtown, but that's in the tourist district. I don't expect to see people riding horses in the city outside of that tourist setting.

Thank you, Patricia Feager. I bet that horse loved getting out of his barn and taking a stroll down main street.
