Glen Rollin

Managing Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty PB00068179

Glen Rollin was born in Twin Falls, Idaho in 1898, his wife Bessie Louise was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia in 1905. The couple met on a passenger ship in 1927. They married in 1928.

For their honeymoon they decided to go on an adventure through the Grand Canyon in a boat. Glenn was and experienced river runner while Bessie was a novice. They stopped and resupplied on November 18, 1928 at the Bright Angel Trail.

When the couple failed to show up at the end an extensive search was started. Investigators and volunteers found the boat at the 237-mile marker upright and fully intact. Search as they may the couple has never been found. There were speculations on what happened however, all inquiries and roads led to a dead end. Thus, we may never know the fate Glen and Bessie Hyde. Several books have been written and PBS did mention them in “The National Parks: America’s Best Idea as well at the TV show Mystery Hunters.

Ah .... this is quite a mystery.  Honeymoons can sometimes be problematic - there have been several stories of people "falling overboard" off cruise ships on their honeymoons - and remember the guy who left his new bride in the water on a scuba trip - he "lost" her.... Glad we didn't go near the water on our honeymoon -

Hi James,

This is a very interesting story that makes one think.  I have been on that river many times on a Sea-Doo. There is nothing like it.

Of course this was many, many years ago before 2-stroke emgines were banned.

Hi James- it's a shame that they didn't have Dateline back then. Then we'd know the rest of the story.
