Door County is the place for Waterfront, that's for Shore!
Living on a Peninsula surrounded by water (nearly 350 miles of it) is an incredible experience, but sometimes we take it for granted. Lately we've had a major State Highway detour that takes me to a meandering County Highway that seems to last forever. It adds 10 minutes to a trip to Sturgeon Bay. Never mind that it's autumn, the colors are bright, and I get incredible views of "Mud Bay" (a Lake Michigan inlet) from this drive and much more--ancient turtles, frogs and toads, deer, turkey, even an eagle, once)---but I'm in a hurry! I have houses to sell, places to be, a family to take care of, people to meet!!
However, yesterday, I had just a little bit more time, and I caught myself in awe of the drive down County Q, with its towering pines mixes with the changing colors in the hard woods, the glimpses of the golden lake with its tall grass.
Just one of the Views I might pass by on any daily drive---
without even really noticing!
I am ashamed to say that I often take these things for granted. Driving down Highway 42 from Sturgeon Bay through Fish Creek, Ephraim, Sister Bay and Liberty Grove guarantees glimpses of the Bay (and sometimes, as with Ephraim and Sister Bay, huge expanses of public shore just for viewing sunsets, waves and sailboats). Driving down Highway 57 guarantees me views of Lake Michigan from Baileys Harbor and Jacksonport. And driving over the Kangaroo Lake Causeway never fails to give me a little shiver and thrill....year-round.
One of the reasons I've been spending so much time on County Q lately is because we have an incredible new waterfront listing for sale in Baileys Harbor that almost made my heart stop when I stopped by at twilight the other evening. This home faces Marshall's Point head-on to the east, North Bay to the north and Lake Michigan to the south. As I stopped by the other evening to drop off a key for the owner, I walked down to the shore and at portsion the Lake water was actually PINK from residual sun over the Bay. I have never seen anything like that in my life except the Caribbean and parts of Europe. This home allows you to see Northern Lights. And by facing Marshall's Point, a naturalist paradise with over 500 protected acres on the shore and only 31 home sites, all one sees at night are stars, stars and more stars.
Our listing itself at 9370 County County is nearly-new construction (2014), with a fantastic open floor plan that maximizes the water view. It has even generated substantial rental income when not being used by its owner.
Water views from Kitchen, Living Room, Dining Room
and 2 Bedrooms at 9370 County Q, Baileys Harbor WI 54202
This custom home on the shore of Lake Michigan in North Bay in a setting of water and woods features three bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, a custom kitchen with granite and stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, a fireplace and a water view and waterfront setting that will simply knock your socks off. It includes a custom pier. There was so much to see and wonder about that I had to keep reminding myself was was there to list a really gorgeous, one-of-a-kind home---not to enjoy all of the natural splendor around it (although I did enjoy both!).
While I was listing this home, I saw a flock of migrating geese, a female salmon looking to spawn (she was a bit lost), three frogs (well, one may have been a toad), a doe, two turkeys, a loon and some mallard ducks. This was during the course of a few hours in two days.
If I owned 9370 County Q, I don't think anything could keep me off of the dock at twilight after seeing the incredible array of colors. It's autumn now, so the brilliance of the trees across from the shore, plus the sunlight and incredible serenity would draw me back day and night. In summer, one could kayak, fish off the pier, swim, sunbathe and more. At night, I'd enjoy the fire pit where I could tell stories with family and friends, roast marshmallows and gaze across the Lake at the stars. It's a fantastic home, and an idyllic setting (and it's also convenient to both Baileys Harbor and Sister Bay).
