FREE - Make a tag cloud for your blog!!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Blue60.com

You may not know this, but your blog at Active Rain already has a tag cloud.  It looks like this:

 Tag Cloud Image

The larger the word appears - the more often you have used this tag on your blogs.  It's a quick and easy way for readers to see what you write about.  If you have a blog outside active rain - wordpress, blogger or the like - you may not have a tag cloud.  Now you can create your own tag cloud at MakeCloud.com

It works on the same principle as syndicating your feed at FeedBurner or any other site.  All you need is your RSS feed file address.  Check out their tutorial on how to add a tag cloud to your site.

What is the advantage of a tag cloud? Guess I'm out of the loop on this aspect of tags and how to use them.

Brian - think of it as an easy to use summary or index of your blog.  By looking at a tag cloud - readers can see what you write about.  Take a look at your tag cloud:

bsolinksy tag cloud

The biggest word is brian Solinksy.  A reader would infer that you write a lot about yourself!  Or that you know about yourself.  Whereas Puyallup market reports is one of the smaller tags - meaning you dont' write about that alot.  I think an effective tag cloud also has a lot to do with effective tagging.  The bloder items mean those that you write more about.   If that Pallyup market report were the biggest - it says you spend a lot of time writing about that.....maybe it even infers that you are an expert!

Here is my non expert response to your question Brian.  Search engines look for certain words, tags that are related to the topic that you are writing about.  So people who are trying to find your article using certain keywords can find your article more easily if you use tags.  Search engines send out spiders or some other bug that looks for these words.  Otherwise you are writing in space out of orbit with a very important message, but nobody is listening or reading.

PETER - Excellent point!  Your tags should be targeted towards search engines.  But they have to be tags that are related to your post.  Sure, you can tag every post with the word pallyup - but if the posts don't relate to or discuss pallyup specifically, you will alienate readers.  Another good use of a tag cloud is a way to analyze your own tagging/writing.  What is getting the most focus?  What should be getting the most focus?
