We always say "we've been divorced hundred of times"...as our niche in Divorce in real estatein nine southeastern Wisconsin counties...has had great success in having hundreds of couples able to successfully sell one of their largest assets and move on with their lives. Seeing them a couple years later...without the stress ....and becoming the people they were meant to me is extremely gratifying.
Twenty five years ago today....we were married....with no thought of divorce ...then or now. It really has been as Rhoda said her vows: "In sickness and in health, as long as we both shall love." We gave no thought to poorer....planning on having each of our lives enriched by this union....and so it has been now for a quarter of a century which seems unbelievable even to us !
This is the picture of the Grain Exchange...a landmark in downtown Milwaukee where we were married and had a reception that followed. The ushers escorted me down the stairs from the balcony and I met my Parents at the base of the stairs where they took me down the aisle together and we met the wedding party...burgundy velvet skirts, pink satin bloused atttendants I had a dressmaker make for them...we gave them to each attendant and they really COULD wear them again.....holiday dress....and not a once in a lifetime "costume". We flew a minister friend from California to officiate. But I skip ahead of myself.....
Prior to the wedding....I had a marketing company and David worked in the private sector....I went on a trip to Boston and a side trip to Salem to see one of the well known "Witches"...Linda by name. My Mom and I occasionally had cards read, tea leaves, palms, horoscopes....a hobby of sorts we enjoyed together. Nothing to rule your life by....just interesting. The trip was the August before we were married...we knew each other as friends but both had other romantic interests at the time....and no thought of ever being married. Enter Linda...who did tell me some amazing facts about the past....and then went on to say that I would "continue to renew a relationship with someone and by the end of the following year, we would be married." I had taken copious notes....but had pretty much decided that Linda had her stars confused....I knew no such "available" person...and had no plans next year or at that time, any other...to be married.
Early November the phone rang and David asked if I wanted to attend his company Christmas Party at the Fox and Hounds...a very nice restaurant out in the country....we went accompanied by a HUGE snowstorm 8"-10" and a thankfully safe trip home where we stopped at a local restaurant for a nightcap...that was the night "Sally's Special" was born....a shot of vodka, creme de cacao and blended with ice cream (or here frozen vanilla custard) topped with a spritz of whipped cream and a drizzle of Raspberry Chambord....still something we use as a celebratory special occasion drink..try it !
Little did I know how special that night would be...the beginning of what we will celebrate tonite 26 years almost to the day of 25 years of wedded bliss...and anyone that says it's always bliss....is....well....imagining things....but for sure more bliss than not....so the Celebration continues...this time at a restaurant in Hales Corners we have come to love called the Stoneridge Inn. It's a supper club where the owners, John and Diane Demopoulus, know their customers by name and you feel at home with wonderful homemade cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere.
Our self imposed obligation to being chairs of the Halloween Spooktacular October 21st has intentionally put off a second honeymoon...that too is "in the works" for a later date.
And now you know..."the rest of the story" of how we became ...Hansons Both.....and are still living happily ever after.
