My son Spencer has got to be the most hell bent for leather ice fishing aficionado you have ever met. He has everything you can think of. Including Sterno and food for the trays to be heated, heaters, and well... you get the picture.. Once again, Winter in Wisconsin is right around the corner and  Spencer gets his arsenal of favorite lures, poles, varied and assorted snacks and food and he will eat while the ever demanding physical and strenuous ice fishing is under way. Sitting in an ice shanty looking at two open holes takes a certain amount of conviction, pseudo tenacity, and desire and strength that many would not understand Spencer tells me. As he gets in his truck and has his gear together to head out at 4 or 5 a.m, he call me on my cell and reminds he needs his favorite tip up and that he had better stop off and get some shiners in case they get Northerns or muskies, and asks if I need a donut. No, I am okay little buddy. I will be okay until 7 a.m. or so and then I can skyrocket my blood sugar. God, I love it when my kid thinks big, is always so kind and thinks of everything, but something in the back of my head thinks he might need more money. You know how grueling and exhausting that ice fishing can get! 

For those that don't know Wisconsin and ice fishing jargon a tip up is a small pole that is set and when the fish hits it the release allows the pole to tip up. Shiners are a large minnow type fish they will use for bait and anticipate the big fish. As my son sees me last night there is a familiar saying that comes out of this wonderful 23 year old that is 6'8" and is a walking wall of affection and joy.

" Hey Dad, dont you love it! "  " No Spencer, a couple hours here and there I am okay with.  A whole day and I am going to break staring at a line hoping it bends so I can pull a blue gill up. "
