Weekend Wine Review Rioja Monte Clavijo 2016

By
Industry Observer

This weekend we drank plenty of Napa Wines but I had already reviewed those so I will not re-review those. Last night my eldest son came over and it was so hot so we opened the rose and had it with cheese and crackers. This was very cold and delightful, it smell of bright cherries with some floral notes, on the mouth it  tasted strawberries and cranberries.  It is a Spanish wine made with a tempranillo and grenache grapes. It was delightful and under $10. It is a buy again.

Yum that sounds like a perfect pairing -  very chilled rose along with cheese and crackers. Is it 5:00 yet? !!

When I first became introduced to the wine world in the 1960s, I drank a lot of rose wines.  From there, It was on into a couple of decades of white wines, especially Chardonnay.  But, in more recent years I found I loved the reds - Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay Beaujolais and Merlot.  But, about a year ago, my daughter introduced me to a couple of rose wines that she liked, and I was amazed that I felt as young as I did in the 1960s.

Yolanda, this wine does sound refreshing.  At Mondovi, they had a rose that wasn't bad, and you know I am a red wine drinker!

Good morning Yolanda. This looks like a great wine and would work well with most things.

Sounds like a winner to me and you have described it wonderfully.  If I were to see it in the store, I would purchase it based on your recommendation.

Hi Yolanda,

Thank you for sharing and recommending this wine. We are actually experimenting Indian summer in California. How is Napa?
