Sounds like a great tradition and could produce many stories. The All You Can Eat Fish is frequently seen here on the SE side of Michigan and often advertised as AYCE. Which is the same as a fish fry, just a different name, and commonly served with beer.

That’s a wonderful localism post. Bet fish fries are pretty popular. Here we probably see more fish tacos. The fried fish and fries here are usually called fish and chips, in the British tradition.
