Wordless Wednesday Farewell to the "Queen of the Skies"

It's is a bittersweet time for United Employees who have worked for many years on "The Queen of the Skies," the Boeing 747. United Airlines is saying farewell by taking the 747 to many different airports so the employees through a raffle can take a short ride. I saw the final flight  for  Houston today over the Houston Skies this morning. We have had many trips on this beautiful bird. Sydney, Hawaii and Seoul. Many employees are taking their final flights all over the world. The final flight will be on November 7, 2017 out of San Francisco to Honolulu. Peter Crew Sr. and Peter Crew Jr. will be on the flight they booked the day the press release was announced. 

 

The 747 changed the way people traveled and it really opened up the airline industry. So, I am humbe in given this Queen her due.

And so it goes, changes keep us moving.  We were just discussing the L10 11 by Lockheed that TWA had.  First class was SO Luxurious, and the chairs swiveled and you could sleep in them...A

I suspect replacement planes will have seats smaller and be even closer together.  I remember a flight to London that had the passenger next to me spilling into 1/3 of my seat.  Packed flight, couldn't exchange seats.  It's simply not as much fun flying these days.

There was a time I thought a bus ride was inferior to a plane ride. Now buses are more luxurious and planes are stripped down and low class.

It is a beautiful plane and has probably seen lots of sites and touched many people's lives as being their first flight ever! What a cool way to bid her farewell.

Gabe Sanders They are using the 777, 787 and 767 strictly on an economics. British Airways is using the newer 747 which are more economic.

Hmm, I never payed much attention to what type of airplane I was flying on, but I did notice that some planes had more leg room than others, haha.

Oh the places we've gone in the 747, Yolanda! It's really a bit of a sad moment - I don't know if it's because it makes me feel old or because it's a farewell to something that holds many fond memories. Okay, perhaps it wasn't the plane but, the destinations, for sure!
