Look! Up There on the Roof!

Clay Roof-top Decoration

It's always interesting to come across something intriquing but unexpected, if you are paying attention, as was the case of spying this roof decoration on a house in Aguanga CA on the way through the mountains to the desert.

Roof-top decoration in California

I'm not quite sure what kind of creature it was - somewhat dragon-like or perhaps a dinosaur - but it looked a bit menacing and perhaps was there to ward off evil spirits. I couldn't resist grabbing my camera, of course.

This house also had a small market and we had stopped to buy some fresh produce on our way to Palm Desert for a visit with a friend. The home was on a rural 2-lane road high several thousand feet up in the hills with incredobe westerly views of mountains, valleys and Vail Lake far below.

The creature may be warding off evil spirits but it's surely not keeping shoppers away, maybe it's even attracting them.

Ha, Ha, nice!  I was in a different Wyoming town today (Sheridan) and I noticed its main street had many unexpected statues, though none as unusual as this!

Good morning Jeff.

Whatever it is or why it was placed there, I like it.  Hopefully the new owners will leave it

Hi Jeff... unique for sure... most of our subdivisions in Charlotte would not allow this kind of creativity.

Hi, Jeff.  That will definitely scare away the evil spirits.  Maybe some not so evil ones as well.

Interesting decorative piece that perhaps has something to do with Halloween around the corner, Jeff?

Yikes.  This does not look like the welcome mat!  I wonder what the birds think as they look for a place to perch.
