For years I doubted myself, and I could never see myself as others saw me. Even though I excelled in jobs and careers, even though people gave me “atta-girls” for the good job I was doing, and even though my paychecks continued to increase, I could not see the value in me. If you can relate to that, your worth is being underestimated.
So often I talk with students who devalue themselves just as I did a good part of my adult life. I explain to them that your worth is formulated by the value you place in yourself. If you’ve been beaten down a portion of your life (just as I was), it takes years to realize your worth is greater than you think. I had to do a complete turnaround to realize that all the negative things I was told about myself during childhood were not true; all the names I was called didn’t define me; and all the self-fulfilling prophecies I placed on myself didn’t have to exist. Your worth is so much greater than these!
It wasn’t until I became a REALTOR® and began helping people that I realized I was worth something to someone. People needed me, and the more I could help people, the better I felt about myself. Extending beyond the practice of real estate, I finally found spiritual healing for all the garbage I had been carrying around with me for so many years. Believe me, your worth is greater than you may know!
We are in the second week of a broker class, and we have a very eclectic group from diverse backgrounds. My No. 1 priority, aside from helping them achieve their goal, is to admonish them to realize that the commitment they’ve made to this class has increased their worth. Only the cream of the crop commits to a class such as this! The broker class is never for the faint of heart! It is important to me that each student in this class realizes how valuable this education is in his or her career. Each one has acknowledged that another REALTOR° has made at least one negative comment about a broker class, e.g. it’s a waste of time or you don’t need a broker license if you’re not going to open your own business. Nothing could be further from the truth! Once this class is completed, no doubt the students will understand and will agree on the importance of this type of education.
Your worth in the practice of real estate will increase with every class you take, with every consumer you help, and with every closing you attend. Becoming a broker or a broker-associate validates your experience, your education and your worth. TEAM Hughes Real Estate School is offering the broker course again next Spring. It’s not too early to commit the time it takes to complete the course. The dates are already scheduled, and you can find them on our website. We hope you’ll join us for an intense trip into another facet of the practice of real estate.
