5 things I learned about "Headshots"

If you are like me, you aren't comfortable in front of the lens.

Recently, tho, I had to do the dreaded update your profile and advertising pic.

I splurged and hired a great local photographer for a "session". She did everthing from touching up makeup, hair to numerous clothing changes..( she told me to bring 10 outfits)

So  here is what I learned......

1, Hire a PRO,, do some research, find one you like , interview them, remember you are hiring  and should feel comfortable with them.

2, Take clothes you feel comfortable in , clothes that make you feel good. If you feel confined in a blazer DONT wear it! Be real!

3, Most profile pics look better if you are wearing a solid color , avoid busy patterns,, they are called busy for a reason.

4,  IF taking your own pic or if trying for the setting look, pay attention to the back ground. Does it enhance or detract? If its a doorway are the angles straight?

5, No seasonal pics UNLESS you plan on changing them every month.

Hope this helps another photo phobe. "Good luck !

Hi Lesley- you shared excellent tips for getting a good headshot. Even body stances can make you "unapproachable." The advantage of using a professional photographer is just like using any professional...they know what they're doing.

Nice photo, Lesley. I think it's so important to be approachable. We need a new duo head-shot.
