Zebras in the Serengeti ~ An Adventure

Industry Observer

Up Close with Nature

Zebras love to pose for the camera.

Who knew?

Last January I had the privilege of traveling to Africa with my daughter Kathleen. Her day job brings her to Uganda quite often and she had been advocating for an adventure to coordinate with one of her work trips. This year was the year that we made it happen. A week long Safari in Tanzania. My only regret was that I didn't take this journey sooner. What an adventure to see animals in their natural surroundings.

 Zebras by Janis Borgueta

After sorting through all the photos I took on Safari, it was really quite hard to decide which animals were my favorite. I will say, the Zebras definitely showed an affinity for having their pictures taken. They were always engaging and looking right into the camera. My photos included lions, cheetah, elephants, monkeys, hippos, rhinoceros, wildebeest and oh so many others.

This photo is entered into the contest for Dick Greenberg in the Real Life Animal Category.

I felt the same recently when I traveled to Bali: why I did not go there sooner...

Great picture!

I've been on safari, Janis, and to Africa numerous times.... whether it's giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, lion prides, elephants, etc.... so exciting to see and unforgettable.

One visit gets most hooked or at least craving to return. My trip was just my daughter and me. Now my hubby and I will return and then I still have another daughter that was to tour at some point. Hmmmm.

Hi Janis - That's a wonderful photo! Mary and I have a Botswana trip coming up sometime in the next couple of years - I'm really looking forward to getting photos like that. Thanks for your contest entry!

Tanzania was amazing. South Africa and Namibia next May. I'm sure that Botswana will happen at some point. It is an addiction that needs to be fed. =) Just make sure that your trip is long enough. I don't know where the time went and we had no internet, or cell service. Glamping at its best.

That is great.  Stripes all about.  This one would look so good in a nice black frame on your wall.

Fantastic picture! I don't think the zebras are posing. I think they're sizing you up to determine if you are going to charge at them and eat them for dinner.

A trip of a lifetime and a Nat Geo moment, worthy of that magazine! So lucky that your daughter prompted you to do this. (I'm jealous as hell...)

My husband was so jealous, that I'm headed to South Africa on Safari in May. It is life changing to be out there with the animals. I can't even describe it. Lion

Hi Janiz

What a wonderful photo that is - looks like Mom and the kids! We have several friends who have been on safaris and raved about them. What a life-chaing adventure!

Absolutely! No phone service, no internet, no tv. Just haning out and watching the animals. At night the entertainment after dinner was hearing all the sounds in the bush. Zipped up tight in our tent (glamping at its best) we heard some mighty interesting sounds out there. No worries as we had our Masai Warriors guarding us while we slept. Waking up at dawn with a cup of coffee, we would head out to greet the animals and the sunshine each day. Nothing like it indeed. I'm spoiled
