State Wide Realty Weighs In:
Selling Your Home in the Winter

There are definite advantages and disadvantages to selling your home in any season but in the Winter months there are even more things to think about.

1. Keeping Your Home Safe For Showings: when there is snow or ice on the ground make sure walkways are cleared as much as possible, sand or salt down to prevent falls,  icicles are removed from entryways and there are places to leave wet shoes when they enter.

2. Decorate For the Season: display those snowmen or hang a wreath on the door to make your home inviting in the harsh climate.

3. Highlight the "Comforts": make sure the fireplace is cleaned and on if there is one, showcase how much light comes in to heat the home naturally and make sure the temperature in the home is set at a comfortable setting.

4. Make them Feel Welcomed: to make your home stand out in a buyers mind leave them some treats or have smells of the season in the home (e.g. apple cider, hot chocolate or air fresheners).

Winter is not as active for the housing market in most rural areas but that also means the inventory gets low and can make your home a "one of a kind."
