Speechless Sundays - Camellias in Bloom

Each fall, I look forward to seeing some color in the garden. Spring and summer flowers and flowering shrubs always put on such a beautiful show of color but, fall and winter are a bit more dismal. So, when the Camellias begin to bloom and the Pansies begin spilling over with colorful flowers, the focal point changes from the fallen leaves and the nearly barren trees to one of great appreciation of the colorful Camellias.

Camellia Sasanqua

The Yuletide Camellias are next to bloom and their deep red color adds a new pop to the landscape. I'm looking forward to the next bloom but, for now, I took a page out of Liz and Bill Spear's book of capturing a busy bee on my now, blooming Camellia Sasanqua.

These are quite hearty in the Charlotte area and are a fast-growing evergreen that produce beautiful white, fluffy blooms in late-fall and into mid-winter.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz :)   I don't think I've seen those flowers here.  I used to take anything rated Zone 5 or better, but lately I've dropped to 4.  We had a winter a couple of years ago with a lot of -15 degree temps and some of our rated 5s didn't make it.

Oh, I'm a total nature-holic, Laura and especially if it's blooming or breathing (like the deer we often see in our backyard)!

Oh gosh, do Pansies make it in your area, Liz and Bill Spear? We are zoned 7b - 8a here because of the 4 seasons and mild winters, I'm assuming. So, the Camellias do make a grand entrance in late fall and are quite hearty.

Have a great week!

Very nice.  The thing I hate about the fall... getting dark earlier and trees without leaves.  Your picture... my kind of fall!

Debe, we are also very barren here, with two snowfalls and temps already dipping into the 20's at night.   Have not seen any of these flowers around here, wonder if we can grow them?

Pretty looking flowers in your garden this time of the year. We don't have any thriving blooms right now, but the leaves left on our trees are a pretty burnt orange/rust color...

When I was a kid growing up, my mom and dad planted a small grove of Camellias at our home.  Your picture makes me realize how much I miss them.
