We are connected to our phones, constantly monitoring for new business information, a text, an e-mail or voice message. It can wait. Give clients in the here and now your undivided attention without unnecessary distractions, it is the least you can do for their sake.

My clients will take calls and text during lulls when showing homes. They respectfully put the phone away when discussing important aspects of business, thankfully Chris Lima.

Oh my gosh Shirley Coomer, My husband and I were out for dinner last week and almost every diner had their phones out scrolling...a little 18 month old was watching a movie! Crazy to think these people do not converse while sharing a meal out together. Why even go together?

The art of conversation is getting lost through texting, emailing and social media. Smiley or sad face emoticons, thumbs up clip art or ROTFL-type acronyms just do not compare to the real thing Richie Alan Naggar

Yes, I do agree with Richie as well Margaret Goss. You can miss so much when not completely attentive and things can go downhill fast from there!

Being present is great advice for everyone always. I am always surprised to see the number of people sitting right next to eachother with their phones out who don't say a single thing to eachother. Wanda -- From what I see it's getting worse.  Just in the last day I was almost run into as I was walking in the mall by two women texting and walking.  There was actually physical contact. Then went out to eat and told my husband to take a look at another table.  Four people.  All on their phones.. texting, reading, whatever. No conversation.  It's annoying when I am with someone and that person is constantly checking the phone. I always put mine away when with clients.  It's just rude to not give full attention.

It never ceases to amaze me: people answer or look at their cell phones during one on one meetings and interviews.

I had one interviewee (when I was a sales manager for a builder) reach into her handbag and answer her phone not once but twice during the interview.
