It took a few years, a lot of hard work, and many donations, but 2017 marked the first dedication of the Armed Forces Circle at the Liberty Grove Historical Society--a monument in memorial to those that have served in the armed forces from Liberty Grove and elsewhere, in all services.
The Liberty Grove Armed Forces Circle memorial was dedicated this past summer of 2017 at the top of the Ellison Bay Hill, with its incredible views of Green Bay. The circle, dedicated in July of this year, commemorates with nearly 100 brick pavers the names of servicemen and servicewomen from all branches of the military, with room for more to come. The crowd at the July dedication numbered nearly 300 people, and I was able to visit the memorial the next day to see the name of my grandfather, a life-long citizen of Liberty Grove who served in the US Navy in World War II.
It's a fitting place to go and reflect today and those we love and those we have lost that have served to fight for our freedom. Memorials like this one ensure we will never forget our heritage or the generations of men and women that have died to defend our country, our honor and our freedom.
Wishing you a safe Veteran's Day from Door County, Wisconsin that is full of memories for those that have served and continue to serve our nation in a turbulent world.
