Thankfulness (Day 1) - Fur Babies

Taking Debbie Reynolds' challenge, I decided to begin with something that is more time-sensitive. I will not rank or post my thankfulness posts in any particular order. I'm very much a writer to what is top-of-mind that day so, this challenge is perfect for me! LOL

Beautiful adopted baby

After attending the Humane Society of Charlotte's Ties & Tails Gala last night, I am committed to getting the word out to ADOPT A PET!

Charlotte the Cat

Our family loves pet adoption and we always go with the intent of 'saving a dog' (or cat in Charlotte's [our cat] case!) and we never fail to realize, during the car ride home, that this fur baby has rescued US!  There's just no feeling like it - being able to give comfort, warmth, food and love to these precious gems and in return, receiving loads and loads of unconditional love and oh, such joy! They somehow, some way, march right into our hearts instantly!

We have so many choices for you at our shelter here in Charlotte - cats and dogs alike - there's a precious little one, just waiting for you. They're anxious to give you their love and appreciation and bring so much joy into your life - joy you had no idea you could experience!

November is senior pet adoption month and there are some amazing senior pets available at Charlotte's shelter. Imagine - little to no training necessary with a senior pet!

The Humane Society has been providing spay/neuter services in Charlotte for 35+ years. In fact, Charlotte’s Spay/Neuter Clinic was the very first low-cost clinic in the entire Southeast. The Humane Society also provides vaccinations against some of the most common cat and dog diseases so, your new pet is 'protected' before he/she ever leaves the shelter.

What are you waiting for? Hop in the car and head to the Humane Society of Charlotte. You know your precious new K-9 family member will LOVE that car ride home! Some felines like car rides also - my rescue kitty surely does!

Humane Society of Charlotte has two locations:

HSC HQ & Main Shelter:

2700 Toomey AVE, Charlotte, NC 28203

Petco Adoption Center:

10017 Biddick LN, Huntersville, NC 28078

Both are opened from 11AM to 5PM Tuesday through Sunday and are closed on Mondays.

Debe- Charlotte reminds me of our fur baby, Baby Grey, who left us many years ago. Larry found her by one of his spec homes and we brought him back to our home. Isn't it amazing the power that these 4 legged family members have over us.

Good morning Debe.

Sadly we only have one fur baby left. I know we won't have another one, so we love Sheldon like he is the last, as he will be

Adorable!!  Thanks for sharing.  For the first time in a while, I am without a fur baby due to a strict no pet policy.  I suppose the powers that be are not aware of the unconditional love that a pet provides or the companionship.  I am a big fan of adopt don't shop and have had the good fortune of being rescued by the simple act of adopting. Truly, these adopted animals were cherished blessings in my life. Woof! Meow!

Great idea, what a wonderful way to encourage others to adopt a loyal and loving companion. It's tough to match the love from an adopted pet - they are so grateful somehow. D

Fur babies are among my favorite blessings too, Debe.  I love your photo, especially the vivid color of leaves, and the sharpness of the image of your pooch.

I feel sorry for James Dray that he will soon be out of pets forever. I could not in my wildest dreams ever think of myself without a pet around. In fact, when I leave for Hawaii for a couple months on the 30th, the biggest thing is I have no cats there. I've been wondering if I could foster a cat while I'm there.

Hi Debe - There's nothing like the love and humor that fur babies bring into our homes. Our labs have all been bred by us - one litter per generation and we kept one per litter and always gave the other puppies away to friends, and there was never a lack of interest - but our cats were all rescues.

There is nothing wrong with posting your pet love first. That was going to be right after my wife. I understand politics.

Debe, we've had a number of dogs over the years, some came from breeders, some were adopted from rescues. We loved them all and they all gave so much more in return! Thank you for sharing!

Debe, many years ago, I did "pet therapy" through the Portland Humane Society. One of the ones I chose to take to a nursing home, was a then 6-month old pup named Butterscotch. I totally fell in love with her and she became mine soon after. She lived to be almost 15. She was my first "Golden"...dunno if she was purebred or a mix. Didn't matter to me. And I already had my Black Lab mixes, Ted and Bruiser (I rescued Ted when he was almost dead, and Bruiser was a pup in a box at the local market, the last one left)  and she rounded out the bunch!

They all lived to be 12 and older. Gotta LOVE those fur babies!!! (I rescued many cats, too....).
