The Simple Life--Being Thankful for What That Brings

Real Estate Agent with John L Scott Market Center 700512026

In the last couple of years, the word simplify has become the watchword for how my husband and I are approaching our lives. Part of that was to make the decision to sell our luxury home and leave the large mortgage payment behind, becoming debt-free. No more “keeping up with the Joneses”, we now live in a smallish home, on 5 acres and have more freedom to decide what life will hold should my husband’s worklife become too much.

We love being home with our two Golden Retrievers, and our mule and horse and puttering around our property and making simple discoveries about what joys it holds, offering us some of the best memories of our married life together.

It’s not about luxury living anymore, in 6200 sq ft lakefront, but we don’t have the maintenance, the expenses, and our property is more private now. We still have water, which is a must for me as the boundary on one side is Fishhawk Creek and the sounds of it all year round are so peaceful. Much more wildlife comes here to visit and I feed many wild creatures just outside the dining room door!

We are thankful for “the simple life”.

Thank you, Debbie Reynolds, for the 12 Days of Thanksgiving Challenge!

Hi Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Real Estate, happiness isn't in the material things, it comes from your heart and your mindset. If you have your necessities met and live a happy life that fulfills you, you're a happy person. You make your house a loving home.

Hi Gayle - I can relate to that, as Mary and I recently made a similar lifestyle choice (minus the 5 acres). There comes a time when you realize that simplicity is simply the better choice.

Gayle,  Less is certainly more in my world as well. Material possessions are not important to me.  What I treasure is a peaceful life and time spent with my son and grand-dog.

Simple sounds so much better to me. Our decision to live in our rural commune (lol) was simply the best. Emotionally and economically. It's not about what we have, it's about enjoying the life we have and the people we love.

Gayle I can so relate to this!  We are in the process of preparing our home for sale next year or so and finding a smaller patio home. We just don't want a pool and big yard anymore and the idea of traveling more and being able to lock and load is very appealing. Simple is awesome!

We have always lived in a private/rural setting...It has emphasized the importance of simplicity and quiet.  Right now we are near the salt marsh preserves that border the ocean, and we are in a perfect spot for the moment.  A

It doesn't sound like you are missing much at all!  But it also must be nice to have some privacy and tranquility with that large lot.

Gayle- you are singing our tune. We did that when we returned to Florida. There is now more time to go to the beach, read, and do what we want without about home maintenance and taking care of things we don't need or use.
