What would you do if you have billions of dollars in your pocket?
If you were Bill gates you would build your own city of the future.
According to an Arizona-based investment firm Belmont Partners, one of Bill Gates’ investment firms has spent $80 million to buy a massive chunk of land spread across 25,000 acres. It’s situated 45 minutes west of downtown Pheonix off I-10 freeway near Tonopah.
The plan is to turn the land which is roughly the size of Tempe into a futuristic smart city called Belmont. It would be able to accommodate around 80,000 residential units after leaving 3,800 acres for commercial space and 470 acres for public schools.
“Belmont will create a forward-thinking community with a communication and infrastructure spine that embraces cutting-edge technology, designed around high-speed digital networks, data centers, new manufacturing technologies and distribution models, autonomous vehicles and autonomous logistics hubs,” Belmont Partners said in a press release, according to KPNX.
It remains unclear when Belmont would be built.
