Thanks to Debbie Reynolds 12 days to Thanksgiving Challange, I've been contemplating all the blessings in my life. One of them is the ability to help others.
I have been donating 5% of my commissions to charity. Mostly to the MS Society and New Story, a group that builds homes for people in need in the developing world for $6,000 each. 100% of donations go toward labor and material to build the homes.
I just donated to a family in El Salvador and I'd like to see if I can get my Active Rain family to help me raise $6,000 to build a home for this family. Here is their story. If you'd like to help go to this page to donate.
"Douglas and Deysi are a husband and wife living in Ahuachapan, El Salvador. There, they're working hard and raising their child. Douglas works as a contract worker finding work throughout the city and surrounding areas. Deysi is a vendor in the community where she sells fruit.
The couples 4-year-old son, Diego is a lively boy. Douglas and Deysi worry about his safety in their current home. Specifically, when it rains they worry the house will not stay stable. Because water gets in when it rains and mixes with the dirt floor, it's hard to keep things clean. Deysi remarks that Diego often has rashes from the unclean conditions.
Douglas and Deysi dream of a safe place to call their own and raise their son. A community with a place for Diego to grow and play would be a dream come true. Together, let's give this family a New Story!"
