5 Resources for Not Giving Up

Hard days turn in to long weeks.  It’s easy to happen in the real estate industry, especially being paid by commissions only.  When long weeks go longer into months, I find it difficult to keep a good head about myself.  A great mindset is essential for success, yet mindset can be foiled by a number of things.   After awhile, second guessing our decisions becomes prominent.  This gets in the way of succeeding.  Here are a few of the things that help me keep going, and often result in a breakthrough -

A real estate coach is very helpful.  This is more than a mentor, unless you have an awesome mentor who is also an accountability partner.  This video is one I watch for motivation.  Monica Carr brought herself up from the bottom using coaching from Tom Ferry’s company.  Her story continues to inspire me.  She didn’t give up.

Motivational videos help me consistently.  Two channels on YouTube that I watch are Motivation Grid and Mateusz M.  These are well-produced videos with strong, moving messages.  When my thoughts are centered around that I’ve made poor choices, or find myself blocked (especially by my own thinking), these channels remind me that I’m stronger than I think I am.

Reading helps.  And not just inspirational books.  Books that really make me move and stop making excuses are sometimes the only thing that helps.  Recently, Jen Sincero’s books helped me move out of a multiple-month rut.

Actually, if I’m in a decent sized rut, I’ll also go beyond my mentor and friends and seek professional counseling in the area that is causing the most consternation.  Having someone who is not in my everyday world, who cares about my forward movement, and will not let me make excuses  has made me a ton more money than I ever paid them.

Lastly, getting out of the ‘giving up’ feelings can be done simply by taking time in nature.  Soul nourishment is a must for those of us who are consistently on the go, on our computers, and in more meetings than we would like to admit.  A brisk walk by the river often shakes loose the negative cycles that bother me.  This solution isn’t necessarily very helpful if ‘giving up’ is being seriously considered.  It is helpful to give a breath of fresh air to your thoughts to help make decisions more easily.
