Something To Ponder On Whence

Visiting With Family During The Holidays

 

As a 72 year young SEASONED CITIZEN this is a topic I've been pondering for the past several decades. It will be interesting to see where this all ends up moving forward. No doubt, San Diego, like so many other  destination
Retirement zones throughout the Country, will be put to the test trying to figure out how to deal with housing their growing share of 80 million Baby Boomers in the next 20+ years.

 

This drives my point even further home (pun intended) for the need and timeliness to consider a BACKYARD HOME aka Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU). I speak with Seniors daily about their desire to age in place and remain on the property and in the home they raised their families in.

 

Sure there is no doubt that an ever increasing number of Boomers are searching for that new horizon that lies ahead where they can live out there lives. However, there are equally as many, at least in the San Diego market, that want to age in place in their family home. However, they become overwhelmed at the notion of ongoing maintenance and costs.

 

For this reason alone it would be so practical and sensible to add a BACKYARD HOME to their property.

  • They could move into it and let their family/s live in their primary
    residence.
  • They could move into it and rent their primary residence out for an added income stream.
  • They could simply rent their BACKYARD HOME out for an additional revenue stream
  • They might want or need full time on-site home and/or property maintenance in exchange for rent and services rendered.
  • They might need in home unassisted or assisted care constantly close by. 

 

With the lack of available and usable land and real estate in San Diego County for new development let it be known that to date sources have identified over six hundred thousand properties that are viable and legal sized properties for the addition of a BACKYARD HOME.

 

Under the new State Laws enacted in January, 2017  Property owners now have even more rights and privileges than  ever before. Every property/homeowner, Baby Boomer or not, needs to know the right they have to use the FREE LAND beneath their feet in ways that will enhance the quality of their lives.
