ActiveRain Fall 2017 Meetup Today in Carlsbad

It was time again today for a power lunch with the ActiveRainers in the San Diego area! Our small but mighty group gathered today at Chandlers at the Cape Rey Resort on the Coast Highway/Route 101 in South Carlsbad? While not a perfect day the temperature was great and we got to enjoy the ocean views on the dining terrace in addition to some fun times and good food together.

Unfortunately my co-host for the last few years, John DL Arendsen , had some last minute issues come up and couldn’t make it. We had a great time, but it just didn’t feel quite the same without him.

It’s a busy time of year and a good number of other people who were invited were unable to make it, too. Guess we’ll have to try again in a few months!!

Joining me was regular Bill Roberts , along with Matt Brady . John called me soon after we all arrived to let me know a friend of his, David Brauchler with Land Home Financial Services (he hails from San Juan Capistrano up in Orange County) would be joining us, too (he’s not an AR member…yet). While we talked about a number of things - hamburgers, real estate in general - a popular topic was ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units), financing issues and related topics. No doubt ADUs are becoming a hot issue and we are likely to see plenty of changes in our area with the shortage of rentals and the cost of housing, not to mention the income opportunities these could offer.

It’s always fun to get together with people you know and like, and to meet new friends as well. We missed those that couldn’t make it but there will be other opportunities in the future.

We have been co-hosting for about 5 years now I think. I'm not even sure how many meet-ups that is but around a dozen. Sometimes life interferes. I almost missed the one in August due to some last minute client issues. Even when you plan the time it's doesn't always work.

Well there is no trouble selling life by the sea, other than the cost! And yes, ADUs are getting a LOT of attention, as is the lack of needed housing here in general, and not just inventory for buyers.

It was great fun although not as long as normal - some people had fires to go put out!

I only learned about ADUs, at least the term, early this year. With the housing market being what it is, and limited rentals, ADUs are becoming a hot topic.

I'm booked out 2 weeks on average with regular meetings throughout the year too, so Mon, Tues & Fri are my best days for lunch meetups
