My favorite story of Christmas is all about a little baby named Anna and how she changed a families Christmas forever. Anna was supposed to be born 3 weeks earlier but she had different plans in mind. You see her Mother's Mother had passed away suddenly at the young age of 52 in October. Naturally Anna's Mom and the entire family was extremely devastated by her death. So much so that they really didn't want to even do anything for Christmas. But they knew they at least had to do something for the little ones. So they carried on with heavy hearts....
As it turned out there was a terrible snow storm that Christmas Eve. My Mother's sister was at their home along with a few other relatives. About 5:00 pm the furnace went out and the guys headed on down to Anna's fathers hardware story to pick up the parts needed through the storm. It was while they were gone that Anna decided to make her appearance. Her Aunt rushed Mom and soon to be baby to the hospital which thankfully was just a few blocks away. Anna popped out quickly upon arrival, apparently very determined to make it a memorable Christmas for the family!! Meanwhile the guys got back to the house and it was mass pandemonium. Where had Mary and Millie gone in the storm??? The oldest teenager told them the baby was coming and they went to the hospital. Anna's father called the hospital and was told he was the father of a baby girl! Cheers went out and everyone was smiling once again.
Mary and Baby Anna came home from the hospital on Christmas day and the entire family was so excited and happy to celebrate Anna's arrival as well as Christmas. For years, in fact almost every year My Mom repeated this story to me and everyone and shared why Christmas took on an entirely different meaning that year! They were once again happy and full of hope. To this day this story is close to my heart and I always miss my Mom a lot around Christmas. She was so much fun and a very wise woman! We had a very special bond my whole life and I was blessed to call her my Mom. Very blessed! Now you know why I am so darn determined to this day!
