YOU define and create your own destiny.

I am a firm believer that I define and create my own destiny. For many years, I was a counselor. During those days, I remember so many clients who came into my office with problems that were taken right from their lineage.

When I asked why they were following their family norms, they would say, "That's all I know." And, I would insert "That's why you're here" " I would also always ask, "Why don't you define your own destiny?" If the family norms were good and healthy, there was no reason to break away, but most people didn't end up in my office because they came from healthy families. They ended up in my office because they came from damaged families.

Destiny is within your grasp. I come from a family of men who die young with heart issues. I decided in 1977 that I was going to break the mold. I am currently the oldest surviving male in my family (61). And, I plan on seeing my 3 year old granddaughter graduate college, have a family and be self-sufficient. That means I need to hang around a while, and I plan on it.

That brings me to my point. You define your destiny and you create your future. It doesn't matter what your childhood was. Mine was not healthy or supportive, but that didn't mean that I couldn't raise my sons in a healthy and supportive environment. I knew the difference as a child, and I chose to do something different from my predecessors.

This is one time I don't mind using the pronoun "I". Why? Because I choose to live healthy. I choose to exercise. I choose to eat right. I choose to get enough sleep. I choose to be in business for myself. I choose to set my course for the future, and I choose my own destiny. I choose to be successful. I choose to leave a legacy in my path that others can follow. It doesn't matter what my family of origin did. This is my choice.

You choose your destiny and your future. When it's all said and done, I will know that I didn't short-change my life because of the negative impact of others, but I drew on every fiber of my being to be different and to be what I wanted to be. Set your own destiny and future.

LOVE this post.  Simply love it.  I loved Fred's story too.  And I have one, but I think I'll share it on another day in my own pst and simply say here that I totally agree that we end up with the life we make for ourselves.

I was blessed with great parents and a lovely childhood, but they also taught me that I could have/be anything I was willing to work for...

You make some very good points. You have the power to change yourself and your lot in life. There is no use pretending anyone else has power over you to change your life. Great post. Thank you for sharing.

Too many people find it easier to blame their parents than to take responsibiity for their own lives. The fact that welfare, food stamps, etc. are so easily accessible doesn't help them at all.

"Work or starve" would be a fine incentive for a few people of my acquaintance.

I've been reading a lot of business/real estate books that share this same message that success comes to those that believe it possible.

5 years ago on Dec 10, 2012 I had a near death heart attack, since then have been officially vegetarian but mostly vegan. The western meat based diet is killing our population. I actually had relatives tell me they would rather die than not eat meat!!! I still miss meat, but I miss my heart attack even less. Whatever I can do to tip the scales in my favor, I'll do it.

Every day is filled with the opportunity to make choices. Sadly, many think they are locked in to what ever the past has given them.

It is so important for people to find out Who they are, and what talents they have been given and then make the right choices to maximize them.

Thanks for sharing

Mike, since you know my story, you know how much your thoughts & determination resonate with me. It's because of the choices I made a few years ago that my daughters and I are in a really good place now and thriving. It was a bit hard breaking free but I chose to say "no. no more" and I am so, so glad, I did.

On another note, 3 years old?? How did that happen?

Love it! There was a time in my life when I was often a victim. The day I learned that we control so much of our destiny was very freeing.

It reminds me of the election campaigns where everyone was saying what their candidate was going to do for them. My response was, "no matter who is in office, you control your destiny." To think  otherwise is flawed thinking.

Cheers!

What can we do for you today?

Choices oh so many choices is life. The choices we make can change the direction of ones life fairly quickly. Sometimes we do not see the choices that were made until way later but they still change our path. One day at a time for sure well maybe one minute at a time in some cases. the puzzle pieces of life , it is your choice what words are placed in it.

Incredible and provocative. It's your optimum belief that's so essential for attaining your goals and objectives and always begins with, "I believe" and taking action to succeed. Great post.
