As we get closer to the Holidays, I have some tips for your family to enjoy a safe and Happy Holiday Season.
~ If you plan to place decorations on your roof, check to be sure where the overhead power lines are located. Be sure to keep a minimum of TEN FEET between the power lines and anything you may be holding, such as a ladder, equipment, etc.
~ While you are locating those power lines, be sure any strung lights are far from them, as anything touching a power line can become energized.
~ Most Holiday fires are started by candles. Be sure all candles are blown out before leaving your home or going to bed.
~ Almost half of Holiday decoration fires happen because decorations are placed too close to a heat source.
~ Be sure to READ the guidelines for indoor and outdoor use of decorative lights, including the number of light sets you are able to connect to a single extension cord.
~ If you find lights from previous years that are cracked or have broken sockets, it is time to replace these. If there is any frayed insulation and bare wires, these are a definite fire hazard.
~ Do not place these extension cords under rugs, as they could overheat or become worn and cause a fire.
~ Unplug any and all decorative lights when you leave home or when you go to bed.
~ Be sure your live trees get plenty of water, as they tend to dry out quickly, and become a fire hazard.
Make this Holiday season, one that you want to remember, not to forget!
