Selling a home is really more about "attitude", as so many things in life are. It all begins with cleanliness, functionality, and making your home comfortable enough so others see themselves having what you have now.
Accessories has always been able to make people feel good about that terrific look. Think about the old black and white movies and settings from the 1940’s, a time many buyer or agents weren’t even born. For movie actors back then, it was the Fedora hat, a brimmed hat with pinched crown that effortlessly elevated the height of every man’s head that seemed to stand out, above the crowd, regardless of the individual’s size. That slight elevation got another person’s attention. Whether it was a hat, sunglasses, cufflinks, or a something else, it was the "positive attitude," or personality that came through and caused others to react.
How does this compare to Real Estate Sales? In one of my recent sales, my clients wanted something at least nearly double the size they owned and they wanted to live within their budget. When a smaller house than theirs went on the market, Mrs. Buyer was willing to make a generous offer. Even her spouse was surprised. When asked, what makes this house so special, she mentioned all the unique characteristics this house had, that hers didn’t, and if she owned it, she’d be happier. With further analysis, it was determined that the smaller home actually had attitude, personality, and style that made her feel comfortable. As it turned out, the house was already under contract, so we kept looking until she realized, attitude is about the people and not the basic structure of the home. Attitude, like accessories, goes away when people move.
My philosophy has always been that you can make that terrific look and be comfortable in whatever designs and accessories you decide are right for you. Living within your means is all it takes, along with the right attitude. There’s something soothing about finding the right accessories to dress up any home, and all it takes is the right attitude to have that perfect place called home.
