My Favorite Holiday Memory-My Best Gift
Early in my married life, we had two young boys, and life got really hard. I was in construction but had no work. The stress of not having money to pay bills affected my health and I was hospitalized for a short time.
After getting out of the hospital, I just laid around all day and wallowed in self pity. I decided I had to make a change and that brought me to decide to get a divorce. I told my wife that I wanted a nice divorce, no fights.
Then one day when I was so low in spirits, I heard a message on T.V. that changed my life. I heard about a Gift that was offered but I had not received. It was a Gift from God, it was His Son. I accepted that Gift that day and my life was radically changed.
I told my wife about that Gift and she accepted it also. We declared we would not divorce but make our marriage strong again.
This was just before Christmas. We still did not have money but we wanted to celebrate.
I found a small evergreen tree and clipped the top off and brought it home. We took some bricks and a board and made a shelf and covered it with a white sheet. We put that piece of evergreen on it and some ribbon to decorate it.
On Christmas Eve, we as a family, sat around this "Christmas Tree, and read the Christmas story from the Bible. We had no gifts to exchange but we had much to give thanks about.
It was one of the Best Christmas celebrations we ever had.
We had God's Gift to us and we had our family.
When I was young I had received a great gift from my grandmother Read about her gift here.
My greatest holiday memories have been centered around learning about what a real gift is.
My wish for each of you is that you will have lasting memories that bring you great joy in this holiday season.
