One year, after very many efforts with the camera, I was able to capture the Chanukkah candles glowing in the Living Room and their reflection in the window! Then I went outside to see what the candles looked like from the other side of the window. Just as pretty in my opinion! But a lot colder ...
Games, such as DREIDEL, were used to disguise Torah Study which was often forbidden by the ruling conquerors. Lessons were taught using the symbols on the Dreidels.
In America now, small chocolates in the shape of coins are used as the prizes during the games.
As a calendar co-incidence, Hannukah arrives close to other holidays. Trying to keep the true nature of the celebration can be a challenge when the other religious rhythms are so very different.
