We have enlisted Jane's, the owner of Carpinteria Wines, help in furthering our education on Italian red wines. She highly recommended this wine which comes from the Piedmont region, since we are already familiar with Barolo and Barbaresco which are made from the same grape.
The photo above shows a Nebbiolo wine from Langhe which is one of the designated appellations for the Nebbiolo grape. Nebbiolo is also grown in Barolo and in Barbaresco. Both Barolo wine and Barbaresco wine is made from grapes of each region. A Barolo wine is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Barolo region only, and the same is true for Barbaresco. This Langhe Nebbiolo follows the same rules as Barolo and Barbarresco.
Here is what Italian reviewer Antonio Galloni had to say:
"Voerzio's 2013 Langhe Nebbiolo is another terrific example of the year. Striking aromatics give the 2013 much of its lifted personality. Sweet red cherries, crushed flowers, mint, citrus and white pepper are all beautifully sculpted throughout. This is an especially delicate wine that impresses with its poise and freshness." Antonio Galloni 92 Points
Jane prices it at $40.00. We loved the wine and we have a few friends who will appreciate this holiday gift.
Cheers,
Have a great weekend!
