Have you ever moved into a house and felt out of place? It was like something was not quite right? I remember moving into a house that had been built to our specifications. I had even drawn up the original draft of the floor plan on a computer program.
The first night in the house I could not sleep and spent a long time wandering around feeling almost lost. The next day I realized that the house just didn't feel like our home.
A few years later when faced with having to move to another state, I could barely stand the thought of leaving that home.
So how did that strange place that seemed so unwelcoming on that first night become the home I didn't want to leave? My family and I lived in it for several years and made memories.
When I look at photos of that house now, I remember the good times shared there as if they happened yesterday!
So it occurred to me one day that a house is not a home until you make memories in it. A few years ago I was taking a continuing education class that was being led by a standing president of the Virginia Association of REALTORS®.
During the class I made that statement; he looked at me as if a giant light bulb had just gone off in his head. Then he asked me if he could use that quote.
So if you move into a new house and it just doesn't feel like home yet, remember: A house is not a home until you make memories in it!

This picture is of the kitchen in the house that Walt and I bought last year. Mind you the counter and island are never this neat now, but I remember many enjoyable meals that we have prepared and eaten there so now it is our home!
