The Cardiff Kook Celebrates Christmas 2017
The Cardiff Kook has gained some notoriety in the area since the surfing statue was first installed in Cardiff 10 years ago. The notoriety comes from the fact that it is often decorated to fit with the current holiday or in other ways – a treat for many, but something that often irritates others, including those who don’t like the statue to begin with! Or the name it's been unofficially given.
I like this Christmas offering, but I have to say my favorite, which garnered a LOT of attention, was when the Cardiff Kook celebrated the Royal Wedding. Another favorite and elaborate setting was with a pterodactyl swooping down on the statue.
The Cardiff Kook even has his own website that captures all the costuming since the beginning. Check it out to see the Kook in all its (his?) glory.
Personally I think it’s great fun, although not everyone agrees with the statue’s surfing form or even its presence to begin with, or the entertainment that area folks have with the decorations, some of which are pretty outlandish and elaborate. I enjoy how the Kook gets dressed up, and seeing all the people who pose for selfies with it, too!
Here's the back/bottom of the statue for the holidays!
