Scallop Sashimi: a Christmas Appetizer with a twist!!!
Just as a background there are two Restaurants Diane and I frequent on a regular basis, one is in Redondo Beach, some of you might remember, I have written numerous posts about the consistency of the food and the service at a reasonably priced Chain Seafood Restaurant it is “ The Blue Water Grill”. In case you missed them here are a few links (http://endrebarath.com/the-blue-water-grill-redondo-beach-ca/ here is another one Scallop Sashimi
Another great Restaurant is in Manhattan Beach a James Beard Award Winner Chef owner of the Restaurant called Fishing with Dynamite, a bit pricier and more upscale, we love this one as well and have often visited it.
So, you might say what is the common denominator and what does it have to do with the Title of my Post? Well they both serve a Scallop Sashimi that is out of this world😊
I asked Diane what she would like for Christmas Dinner, she of course said: Fish and Scallops, even though I mentioned that is what we had the other day… she was a bit miffed, that I did not want to do that. Of course, it was misdirection on my part. Off I went to Redondo Beach to the King Harbor Pier to buy some fresh fish.
So, let me give you my recipe which is a take off on these two Restaurant’s recipes.
Ingredients: Fresh or should I say live Bay Scallops in their shell
Crushed ice for the presentation as well as for the ride home
Lemon (used for flavor and decoration)
Pickled Ginger (sold in most Japanese stores or given for free when you buy sushi in a store)
Wafu Dressing (sold in most Asian Markets)
The rest is easy, clean the Scallops, wash after it, pat dry and use a sharp knife to loosen Scallops from the shell. Add a little Wafu Dressing and mince some Pickled Ginger drizzle a little lemon juice and serve.
Bon Appetite and Merry Christmas here is a great appetizer you cannot go wrong with.
