YouTube Thursdays - Focusing Our Lens on a New Year

Real Estate Broker/Owner with ViewHomes of Clark County - Nature As Neighbors

We've been getting postive responses to last week's post regarding our efforts to revive YouTube Thursdays, Vbloggers, and video marketing in 2018!

If you Google Video in 2018, a large number of articles are going to pop up with predictions and advice about the use of video in your marketing plan.

If you Google Video for Real Estate in 2018, you'll discover a number of helpful articles with sage advice to help you focus your efforts on the right type of videos.

Here are some video basics to help you prepare for your Video Marketing in the New Year.

Video Quality - Today's smart phones are equipped with some pretty amazing video capabilities. My iPhone6 is better than the old video camera I used when I first started shooting video in 2011. However, if you prefer shooting with a camera, that works too. I normally use my Canon EOS 70D  and a Canon Powershot SX60.

Audio Quality - Built-in microphones have limitations. If at all possible, you should use an external mic. Fortunately, there are now some great options available for smartphones. I also use an external mics for one of my Canons. Again, just Google some options for the camera you plan to use for shooting your videos.

Tripod - Stable video is a must. Nothing ruins a video quicker than shaky footage. There are many options available, but again the best one depends upon the type of camera you're going to be using. If you are going to rely on a smart phone, you'll need a camera rig too. It's essentially a frame for your smart phone that attaches to a tripod. The best ones even have mounts for extra lights and a microphone.

Editing Software - We use Final Cut ProX. However, once again, the best software will depend upon the device you'll be using to edit your video - PC, Mac, or a smart phone. Do some research, there's plenty of information available online.

In the coming weeks, we invite you to join us as we share our tips on creating:

An Introductory Video -

Community Video -

Listing Video - ( It's not what you might expect!)

How to video -

Market Report Video -

We'll even walk you through each step of the creative process. Be sure to join YouTube Thursdays and Vbloggers and get ready to increase your SEO with Videos!

ViewHomes™ grew out of our passion for nature, beautiful surroundings, and peaceful environments. Starting together in an urban environment, over the years we've gravitated towards areas with smaller populations and less density. We now enjoy our lifestyle in a rural environment, but with close proximity to metropolitan areas where we appreciate all the amenities of fine restaurants, shopping, and an easy drive to an international airport.
Living in ViewHomes™ is like having “elbowroom for the soul”.

Just saw this, Debb, and how ironic, because recently I was WONDERING about your YouTube Thursdays (sorry I missed last week's revival). I'll bet that it passed through my head about the time you resurrected it--funny how those things work. I haven't been getting any notifications from AR for over a week now (or more) in my e-mail, so feel kinda lost. Haven't been here much as-of-late, either. But, at least I found this valuable feature!!

What mic do you use for your Canon? I'd like to duplicate that, since we have very similar cameras.

Debb & Bernie, I have done a couple of interior videos of homes but by the time I get back to the office and take a look at them, I think  "this is awful."  Seems like I just bog down until the next wave of inspiration hits.

I need some serious help - with videos too ;~)

Hi Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD

Thanks for a great post! Your list is the core equipment you would need to start using video in your Real Estate business.  I use Youtube as my main lead source (since 2009) and think there is a competitive advantage for Agents who use it effectively.  I use Final Cut Pro too and love it.  Just upgraded my video skills to include After effects which can take your videos to the next level, although there is a learning curve for it.   I would recommend for video tutorials on how to use your camera or Phone for videos, and also tutorials on software for editing the videos.  Happy New Year!

Debb-what external mic do you suggest for your Canon? Of course I have the SX50, one step lower than your SX60.

Hi Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD Your first photo is of a gimball.   I've researched these for hours - all I can conclude is the learning curve is challenging, and the less expensive models have many reviews saying they are very hard to use.    Just curious if you use one, which one?   Thanks in advance!

What can we do for you today?

Looked at the programs and they appear to have a huge learning curve. Need something easy to use.
