A Question of Legacy

Real Estate Agent with Charles Rutenberg Realty Inc. 516-575-7500 NRDS ID#641625055

We came to ActiveRain to build relationships, to learn from the very best in real estate and to get referrals.

With each passing year, we accepted the death or departure of one or another of our dear friends.

As we mourn those prolific and much loved Bloggers who have passed on, friends wonder about a legacy. What will happen to the volume of work each one of us so carefully crafted? A couple of decades since the advent of blogging has not left us with protocol.

Regardless of circumstances, those who are no longer a part of this amazing platform are missed and I know, at some point, each one of us will ponder whether to continue here.

AR University fills a real void and should absolutely be a first stop for newly minted real estate agents. And, of course, the trials and tribulations documented by the pros in the business serve to instruct us, entertain and shore us up when the going gets tough.

But is it even possible to go on posting about real estate forever? Time will tell.

This could be a good thing. As you cast aside your ActiveRain blog, might have you finally reached your goals? Maybe, your departure from ActiveRain means SEO so successful, you've taken over your little corner of the world and you're busier than you could have ever hoped to be when you first signed on here as a newbie.

Of course, it could also mean you've become disenchanted or moved on, for one reason or another but, I prefer to remain positive.

Someday, each one of today's members will wonder out loud if his time has come to stop blogging. Each member's unique perspective and experiences here will result in a different decision.

These days, I wonder also, though, I still log on to check in on some of my favorite people. It's a hard habit to break even as you pass through a different phase of life.  I'm still working it out.

Jill, that is a great observation and curiosity for a lot of us. At what point do we put down the keyboard and pick up the remote. I guess time will tell. The thought of retiring horrifies me. I get my energy from working, but I realize I can't do it forever. I guess when it's no longer fun, I'll hang up my sometimes mindless musings and drift off into obscurity, but not yet.

I think some of us get busy and relegate it to a back burner...in 2018, though, I am determined to renew my passion for blogging.  I have a few more days, though...LOL

Great reflections, Jill! I love writing and it is therapeutic for me so, I don't see myself ever stopping that until I am either mindless or a memory to my family!

I carve out the time (typically at night) and savor that time. I hope you continue - it really does serve a purpose, if not simply therapy!

Happy New Year to you and yours!

Jill Sackler - Such a riveting blog post that opens the doors to many questions. What remains of us is anyone guess. No longer can we expect to find diaries in the attic (although it can happen). More likely, there can be a legacy left behind via Internet. And hopefully, if found, I hope it's family members who find the treasured writings of loved ones and it gives them peace and answers to many questions.

"AR University fills a void...." I agree wholeheartedly. Stay with us Jill. Your writing is needed and appreciated. But most of all, you are too!

I hope you choose to stay on some level, Jill. I am saddened by the loss of members - many who were great friends. I haven't lost them as I can still pick up a phone, send a text, or...but it's not the same.

Jill, there are a few here today that have retired, and still choose to blog about their daily activities.  We have lost some good ones!   Miss seeing your posts.

Mike Cooper I didn't necessarily mean to quit working - perhaps, only blogging -but I liked your sentence about putting down the keyboard and picking up the romote. It was poetic.

Susan Haughton LOL Sounds an awful lot like a New Year's resolution where one can continue eating pizza and ice cream for however many days there are left before the new year. Hope it works out for you.

Gloria Valvasori, Accredited Senior Agent Something always keeps me coming back also. It's a great creative outlet with the possible byproduct of additional business.

Patricia Feager Thanks, you're the best. I have found all sorts of interesting things in attics. Not diaries, but lots of family pictures and record albums.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD I think you best expressed it. I am definitely here on some level.

Joan Cox I continue to sign in daily and read the featured posts along with the musings of my favorite Rainers. There is always something to be learned and I do love keeping up with all our journeys.

Jill Sackler - I reported you last "contributor". They always stick their ad when they believe nobody will be commenting so that you would not pay attention and let them exploit you...

I never went to AR University. Probably, I should have, this is not because I do not like them, simply did not happen yet. And yes, what if one day I quit?

Jon, I seriously need to hire you. Lol. My "contributor" hit quite a few of my older posts and you took care of it. I can't thank you enough.

I can't bring myself to think about my last day on ActiveRain but, obviously, someday it will come - it's just a matter of sooner or later? I don't know which one because I have enjoyed it so and I still miss the ones who are gone.

Your post gives pause to think what will become of our work. I assume it will live on. I have stopped and started blogging again on several occasions. I do see the benefit as long as we create the right kind of post. And as some have said, it can be quite therapeutic. And yet it is sad to see the ones who left to pursue other avenues.
