Strive To Be The One Who Opens Doors For People in 2018

 

- Mike Kim, the blogging pro who helps people build profitable and powerful personal brands, says the best way to create opportunities for ourselves, get referrals and gain influence is to open doors for people.

He says that, by being someone who makes introductions, lends a helping hand, offers to assist others, writes glowing recommendations, gives referrals and brags on others, doors will ultimately open themselves to us.

"That's how life works", Kim says, and of course he's right. The notion that we help ourselves when we lift up our fellow creatures in want is the core principal behind every influencer who has sought to lead us to greater personal growth and development.

"Imagine what the world would be like if no one cared about getting the credit".

Do not let betrayal deter our aim to help others succeed, Kim says. Opening doors for others is noble. It's what matters in the grand scheme of things.  Ironically, he notes, helping others also keeps us humble.

Ever encountered an arrogant doorman, or bellhop? he asks, rhetorically.  A cynic might retort that doormen are powerless people, low-on-the-food-chain, to be respected, perhaps, but not revered. A couple of millennia ago, a glorious prophet promised from a hill that the meek would inherit the earth, the kingdom of heaven. Are dominance and meekness mutually exclusive? Can we earn big salaries, run major businesses, even nations, and serve our fellow creatures in want as the doorman, the bellhop?

Interestingly, the quality of conduct that we might easily overlook in the doorman is the very manner of virtue that seekers of enlightenment and good works have celebrated - and sought - in all ages.

Kim urges each of us to strive in 2018 to be the person who opens doors with a glad heart; to make this our resolution for the new year upon us. Strive to give credit to others and to promote achievement that is not our own. Set ego aside and help connect people to other people.

"You’ll grow your network the real way", says Kim. "You’ll become a connector the real way. You’ll prosper the real way. You’ll be unstoppable, unforgettable, and influential because no one can lord over the one who is generous".
