The Mummers are strutting their stuff even in these bitter cold Philadelphia temperatures today . They work all year to march down the streets of Philly and bring joy to those who watch . Whether you are watching on TV at home or braving the streets . It is a New Years tradition in Philadelphia to be dancing in the streets with the Mummers
Because of the extreme cold this year the parade was almost canceled . The temperates today are 17 degrees at 1pm with a wind chill of 5 degrees but the show must go on .

The Mummers Parade is held each New Year's Day in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, It is believed to be the oldest folk festival in the United States. Local clubs (usually called "New Years Associations") compete in one of four categories (comics, fancies, string bands, and fancy brigades). .The streets are closed in South Philly and everyone who attends enjoys the parade. Every year it is better and better
Mummers in Philadelphia are costumed citizens celebrating the New Year with family and friends. They belong to clubs in one of five Divisions: The Comic, The Fancy, the Wench Brigade, the String Band and the Fancy Brigade Divisions.
